We welcome submissions November through February.

Please send submissions to submit@compajournal.com with the most appropriate genre and author’s full name in the subject line (e.g. Poetry_Etheridge Knight).

Include a cover letter in the body of the email.

Word or PDF attachments only.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw your submission promptly if accepted elsewhere.

We do not accept multiple submissions or previously published material.

Interviews are conducted in-house. At present, we do not accept unsolicited interviews.

At present, we do not accept work in translation.

For poetry, send up to six poems—one poem per page—in a single document.

For fiction and creative nonfiction, send one story or essay at a time. No maximum or minimum word count.

For cross-genre literature, send all manner of hard-to-categorize work. No maximum or minimum word count.

For critical prose, we’d love to feature craft essays, artist manifestos, criticism, reviews, essays on film, music, visual art, poetics or writing praxis/pedagogy, etc. No maximum or minimum word count.

We are excited to feature short comics in future issues. Feel free to give us a shot.

At present, we cannot offer monetary payment for accepted work.
